Döschnitz
Döschnitz
Döschnitz is quietly situated in the Weiße Sorbitz valley, a side valley of the Schwarzatal, at an altitude of 420 m above sea level.
A well-signposted network of hiking trails offers ideal conditions for peace and relaxation in nature. This opens up a world of flora and fauna that is rarely encountered. Even today, more than 100 species of wild medicinal and aromatic herbs can be found in the Döschnitz meadows.
The townscape is dominated by the baroque church. It was built from 1732 to 1735 from Döschnitz marble. The now disused marble quarry was visited by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1781. The local history museum is also well worth a visit. An olives trail and a herb garden also illustrate the long tradition of laboratory work in Döschnitz.
