The village (350 m above sea level, 159 inhabitants) is located north of Rudolstadt between Hirschgrund in the east and the B 85 (Rudolstadt-Weimar) in the west. It was first mentioned in documents in 1330 as "Tichwiden" (probably derived from the old area name "Die Weiden am Teich").
The church from the late Gothic period still has Romanesque elements and a valuable carved altar from the Saalfeld carving workshop from the beginning of the 16th century.
The Teichweiden chronicle group, which has found its home in the former restaurant in the community center, is very active.
The area around Teichweiden is ideal for hiking - on foot or by bike. Coming from Rudolstadt, the national Thuringia Trail leads through the village and on via Weitersdorf to Großkochberg, where the Goethe hiking trail to Weimar also begins at the castle.
