Lauchröden is a clustered village with a typical regional center (church, lime tree, village square, rectory, inn, school, forester's lodge) on the tributary of the Elte river into the Werra. The village was first mentioned in a document when St. Martin's Chapel was consecrated in 1144. The development of the village is closely linked to the history of Brandenburg and its lords. With the abandonment of the Brandenburg in the 16th century, the citizens of Lauchröden used the stones of the castle as building materials for castles and estates in the village. Today's townscape is therefore still characterized by the massive stones of the Brandenburg.
