The foundation stone of St. Nicolai Church was laid on April 22, 1700 and the building was completed just one year later. The baroque church with pulpit altar, 2 galleries, organ and bell tower has been preserved in its original layout to this day. The valuable Marian altar dates back to pre-Reformation times. It is one of the most beautiful medieval works of art in Thuringia.
