Salza spring
Salza spring
The Salza spring is the largest karst spring in Thuringia. After a delay of several months, water that had previously seeped into the gypsum karst area to the north emerges here. The spring pours out an average of 400 liters of water per second.
The Salza spring system also includes the "Grundlose Loch", a circular, water-pumping sinkhole with a maximum depth of 3.5 meters. According to legend, the mill once sank into the ground here along with the evil rich miller.
If you would like to find out more about the Salza spring with its geological features, animals and plants, you will find lots of information on the Salza spring trail, which leads around the spring and the course of the stream on a 1 km circular trail.
