Friedrich Fröbel Museum Bad Blankenburg

Friedrich Wilhelm August Fröbel (1782-1852) recognized play as a typical child's way of life and an important means of education. He began to develop a variety of play equipment that challenged children to construct and experiment, thus stimulating their imagination, training their concentration and at the same time promoting social relationships. In 1839, he put his pedagogical concept into practice in the building of today's museum and invented the name "kindergarten". The exhibition presents his life, his pedagogical program and the history of the impact of his pedagogy using original exhibits at the authentic location.
The Friedrich Fröbel Museum brings the beginnings of the kindergarten to life. The kindergarten was born in 1840 in the "house above the cellar" in Bad Blankenburg. It was there that Friedrich Wilhelm Froebel began practising his program for early childhood education and upbringing in 1839.
