Wild cat village Hütscheroda
Wild cat village Hütscheroda
Hütscheroda, known as the Wildcat Village since 2012, is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hainich National Park - just a stone's throw from Wartburg Castle and the treetop path. Wildcat glade The attraction is dedicated entirely to the symbolic animal of the Hainich - the wildcat. The shy animals can be observed up close in the show enclosure. Visitors climb a viewing tower or enter an earth house to come face to face with the wildcat. Beforehand, you can learn lots of interesting things about the rare animals in the wild cat barn. The "Wildcat Rescue Network", one of the largest nature conservation projects in Europe, is also presented here. A large illustration shows the wildcat's habitat. The multimedia forum presents picture series and information films. Wildcat trail for children For shorter visits, we recommend the 1.5 km (0.5 h) long wildcat trail. It leads through light-flooded deciduous forest past old giant trees with a view of open reforestation areas. Climbing elements along the way invite young and old to try out their climbing skills, just like the wildcat. A fire pit with barbecue and benches can be used on request for a family outing to the wild cat village. Dogs are also welcome on a lead in the Wildcat Village. Moderated show feedings take place daily, the times of which can be found on the website. The wild cat enclosure and the exhibition are suitable for baby carriages. Young visitors can play and draw in the children's corner. The Wildcat Village also organizes children's birthday parties and offers guided tours specially tailored to the needs of youngsters. Lynx exhibition The lynx has also moved into the Wildcat Barn. Innovative exhibition elements present the wild cat's big brother: a multimedia children's quiz, hanging beanbags and a selfie point make the new exhibition an experience for young and old. Visitors can marvel at the lynxes "Looki" and "Kaja" in their natural lynx enclosure with an area of over 4,000 square meters, often with cubs.
