It is the only remaining gate in the town fortifications. Its original appearance has been altered by the renovations.

The oldest stone depiction of the Kahla coat of arms can also be found there. Kahla is one of the few towns to have a female dragon slayer on its coat of arms. Margaret, a martyr and Christian saint, is shown in a victorious battle with the dragon (Satan). The coat of arms can be found in several places in the city.
