Wooden bridge in Wünschendorf
Wooden bridge in Wünschendorf
A real rarity in Thuringia is the 72 m long covered wooden bridge below the Veitsberg, this river crossing served as a connecting path. The first construction dates back to the middle of the 13th century and was destroyed several times by ice flooding. In 1786, the wooden structure, which has been preserved almost in its original state to this day, was built. The side boarding and the gabled roof, originally covered with wooden shingles, enabled the bridge to withstand wind and weather, guaranteeing traders and travelers a safe crossing over the Elster at any time of year.
