Church of St. Trinitatis Herbsleben
Church of St. Trinitatis Herbsleben
Today's St. Trinitatis Church, one of the largest and most beautiful village churches in Thuringia, is located in the center of Herbsleben. Once mentioned as St. Mary's Church in a document dated 28.01.1300, later as St. Wigbert's Church, it is said to have been founded by the assistant of St. Boniface, named Wigbertus, in the years 731-736. Since 1603, the church has been known as the 'Trinity' or 'Trinitatis Church'. The church was also destroyed several times by major fires that raged in Herbsleben in 1415 and 1818. It was always rebuilt in the same place.
After the last fire, the church received a new interior and a new organ from the workshop of the Hesse family from Dachwig, which has not been playable since 2012. The pulpit of the church, which is now located in the middle of the gallery, was originally located on the northern lower gallery. Furthermore, a winter church was built on the first floor of the tower in 1960. The three-part acrylic glass altarpiece designed by the artist Gert Weber, which is located under the pulpit, is also worth seeing.
