Weidmannsheil is the name for a vantage point near the Rennsteig, between Steinheid and Neuhaus. From here, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the reservoir and the villages of Scheibe-Alsbach and Limbach. You can even see the Kieferle (867 m above sea level) near Steinheid, the Bleßberg (865 m above sea level) near Siegmundsburg and the Eselsberg (841 m above sea level) near Masserberg. The refuge was built in 1889 with the help of donations. It was donated to the Thuringian Forest Association of Neuhaus and inaugurated on June 24, 1889. The hut and the grounds are still maintained by members of the association today. The hut was recently extensively renovated.
