Saalburg-Ebersdorf
Saalburg-Ebersdorf
Saalburg-Ebersdorf is a town in the Saale-Orla district of Thuringia, located on the Bleiloch reservoir, the largest reservoir in Germany. The town was formed in 2003 from the merger of the town of Saalburg and the municipality of Ebersdorf. The incorporated town of Saalburg was first mentioned in documents in 1216 and has been a town since 1313. The town's name is derived from the former castle that guarded the crossing over the river. Today, only a few remains of the walls and the stump of the keep, which collapsed on June 20, 1913, bear witness to the former castle. The oldest surviving building is St. Mary's Church, which is located in the town center of Saalburg. Saalburg has a lot to offer for young and old. For example, visit the fairytale forest, the climbing forest or use one of the passenger boats to learn about the reservoir.
