Kieferle Steinheid
Kieferle Steinheid
The Kieferle is the local mountain of the Steinheid district of Neuhausen. At 868 m above sea level, it is the highest mountain in the southern Thuringian Slate Mountains.
From 1962 to 1991, a radar station was operated here by the former Soviet army. Its last remnants were demolished in 2006. In the meantime, nature has reclaimed the mountain peak. A few meters below the summit - on the 6-Kuppensteig trail - there is a refuge. From here, you have a magnificent view of the Coburg region, as far as Masserberg, Frauenwald and Siegmundsburg as well as the upper reservoir of the Goldisthal pumped storage plant.
