Between 1902 and 1904, a 14-hectare city park was created on Rieseninger Berg according to a plan by city gardener Adolf Pollex, based on English models. A memorial stone commemorating the Peasants' War was erected in 1901. On the occasion of the 428th anniversary of Thomas Müntzer's death on May 27, 1953, a new open-air stage was inaugurated and the park was renamed "Volkspark Thomas Münzter", later "Thomas Müntzer Park". The inscriptions on the monument have been changed several times over the years.
