Remda town church (St. Simon & Juda)

The town church of Remda (also known as St. Simon & Juda) was completely destroyed by a fire in 1744. It was rebuilt immediately afterwards and the church took on its present form. In 1888, the room in the nave was given a new altar wall with a triptych of Christ by the painter Edmund Herger. An organ building association was founded in 1846 and organ builder August Witzmann from Stadtilm then built the instrument. Its pipes were melted down during the First World War. Karl-Heinz Schönefeld restored the instrument from 2009 to 2013 and reconstructed lost stops. After the political change, the organ was restored from 2011 with the help of the German Foundation for Monument Protection.
