Dragon tail bridge
Dragon tail bridge
Since 2007, the Dragon Tail Bridge in the NEW LANDSCAPE Ronneburg has been a magnet for visitors.
With its 225 meters and unique shape, it is one of the longest and most innovative wooden bridges in Germany. The structure contains technical innovations, particularly in the sophisticated support solution and the wooden tensioning band of the superstructure. The wooden bridge won the competition organized by the client, BUGA Gera und Ronneburg 2007 GmbH, against a steel/concrete solution. As part of the "Thüringer Städtekette" long-distance cycle route, the bridge is particularly impressive due to its shape. With its undulations, it follows the expectation of natural paths. At the highest vantage points, the bridge is widened and provides an unobstructed view over the birch groves in the valley floor of the recultivated landscape of former mining slag heaps.
In 2008, the Dragon's Tail Bridge was nominated for and awarded the Bridge Prize in the pedestrian and cycle bridge category.
