Main building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar

From 1904 to 1911, the main building of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar was built according to plans by Henry van de Velde as a studio building for the "Grand Ducal Saxon College of Fine Arts in Weimar". It is one of the most important art school buildings of the turn of the century and was the founding site of the Bauhaus in 1919. In 1999, the building was largely restored to its original condition. Today, the building is used by the Bauhaus University Weimar by the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies and the Office of the President. The building has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site "The Bauhaus and its Sites in Dessau and Weimar" since 1996.
