Barbarossa Cave
Barbarossa Cave
The 15,000 m² Barbarossa Cave in the Kyffhäuser GeoPark is Europe's only show cave in anhydrite rock. Simply fabulous! Here you can experience geological history with all your senses and learn lots of interesting facts about an exciting piece of German history.
Huge cavities and crystal clear, shimmering blue-green lakes with impressive ceiling reflections enchant every visitor. Spectacular and unique in the world: bizarrely curved plaster flaps grow down from the ceilings and walls, reminiscent of hanging skins. The multi-layered play of colors from white to grey stone is also impressive. The various veins and drawings, such as "plaster pearls", "snake plaster" and "alabaster eyes", give the stone a truly exotic appearance.
Here you can pay homage to the old Emperor Barbarossa in the "dance hall"! According to legend, he sits at a marble table through which his red beard is said to have grown over the centuries.
