Ägidienkirche
Ägidienkirche
The Ägidienkirche at the eastern end of the Krämerbrücke was built in 1325 primarily for merchants. On the ground floor there were niches where trade itself was conducted, the nave is one floor higher. The tabernacle, inside directly above the archway, divides the east facade with the various large windows. 128 steps lead to a wonderful view from the tower. In 1957 the building was acquired by the then Evangelical Community and was rededicated in 1960. This free church had existed in Erfurt since 1906. In 1968 it united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, formed in Erfurt after 1948 by resettlers, to form today's Evangelical Methodist Church.
