Döllberghütte
Döllberghütte
Up in summer, down in winter ...
A magnificent point above Suhl is the Döllberghütte, located at an altitude of 756 meters on the mountain that gives it its name, and the home of the Suhl Döllbergverein e.V. Ski Alpine. Especially those who want to enjoy the sunset over the city in the evening hours should stop by here: Park your car on the Parking lot Am RingbergblickThe forest paths are signposted, and after a good half-hour's walk you can let your eyes wander - a worthwhile little excursion, especially at the end of the day.
If you have real bang in your legs and strength in your lungs, you can also make the ascent to the hut via the Downhill ski slope at the Döllberg a challenging but worthwhile undertaking, especially on weekends. Because then the hut is not only sympathetic summit decoration, but has opened its doors for refreshments. At fresh beer and hearty snack on the sun terrace the wonderful Thuringian forest air tastes even better.
By the way: The long forest aisle of the downhill slope gives a magnificent view of Suhl's hills and the distant Dolmar - southern Thuringia's probably best-known (extinct) volcano and, with the Charlottenhaus Mountain Inn, the resident Dolmar flight school and the sensational panoramic view of Rhön and Thuringian Forest one of the most rewarding excursion destinations in the area.
