Forest inn "Auerhahn"
Forest inn "Auerhahn"
The Waldgasthaus Auerhahn was built in 1819 and came into the possession of the Eydam family in 1837, who ran it until January 2018.
In 1950, Hans-Joachim Eydam took over the Waldgasthaus from his father Fritz and worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of his guests until his death in 2008. Since 2008, his son Thomas Eydam and his wife have continued the family tradition in the same high quality. After his sudden death in November 2010, the family business was passed on to his sister Kristina and her son Thomas.
In February 2018, Mr. Dirk Hoffmann, who had completed his training as a chef at the former "HO" Arnstadt, took over the Waldgasthaus. He spent 20 years in South Tyrol and has been working as a chef at the Waldgasthaus Auerhahn since 2013.
Not only J. W. v. Goethe - according to reports - stayed here on his last birthday, but also many well-known personalities such as Norbert Blüm, Theo Waigel and Fritz Pleitgen have stayed at the Auerhahn in recent decades.
Anyone with a little knowledge of history will have read that Walter Ulbricht was not allowed to visit the "Auerhahn" because he wanted to go there unannounced on his day off...
