Residence Café Weimar
Residence Café Weimar
The Residenz-Café has existed since 1839 and is thus Weimar's oldest coffee house still in existence. Located in the city center directly opposite the city palace.
The Residenz-Café is the oldest coffee house in Weimar still existing today, it looks back on a tradition of more than 175 years. Although the history of the city's coffee house business is another 100 years older, the history of the Residenz-Café, at least that of one room, also goes back approximately to this time and is closely connected with the beginnings of Weimar's Classical period.
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had his first Weimar apartment from 1776-1777 in the neighboring building directly behind the Residence Café. His living room at that time was located in the room that is now available to guests as the "Goethe Room". The Residenz-Café was founded on November 7, 1839 by the court confectioner August Emil Theodor Ißleib.
