The Munich manor dates back to a settlement of monks from St. Peter's monastery in Erfurt in the 12th century.

Later, the hunting lodge of the ducal house of Weimar stood on the site. Of the former stately splendor with the Green Palace, pleasure houses and pheasantry, only the Kammergut was saved from demolition.
