Shape blown Christmas tree ornaments Michael Haberland
Magic and nostalgia.
The specialty of the family business is the Mold-blown Christmas tree decorations. In contrast to the free-blown ball, here the glass is blown into a hollow figurative shape. The corresponding shapes are a valuable treasure in Lauscha and are passed down from generation to generation.
A very special piece of luck turned out to be a find in the shed at the house at the beginning of 1991: the porcelain molds of Michael Haberland's grandfather and great-grandfather, which had survived the decades stored in a wooden box. Among them were probably the best known and oldest models - the Lauscha glass birds. Thanks to the old molds and the knowledge of his mother, who could still remember the work steps of his father from childhood, Michael Haberland was able to start production again in his company in 1991.
Today, visitors have the opportunity to watch every step of the process live to see how original Lauscha Christmas tree decorations are made and refined by hand. Starting with the still transparent glass blank, which is heated in a roaring gas flame on the blowing table, through to the silvering, painting and glimmering that gives the figures their colorful existence.
