Ceramics workshop Ulli Wittich-Großkurth & Lorenz Wittich

Our workshop was founded in 1957 by Ulli Wittich - Grosskurth in Jena and is run by me, Lorenz Wittich, in the second generation.

Over the years, simple pots and pans in the early 1960s developed into the broad spectrum that our workshop range has to offer today.

The program ranges from vessel ceramics, e.g. all sizes of cachepots, bowls, vases, tea and coffee services and single place settings etc. to individual artistic pieces, animal sculptures and large-scale wall designs. The workshop works with local clays from the Eisenberg, Bad Lausick and Rossbach areas.

The vessels are predominantly freely turned on the potter's wheel, but are also made from pre-rolled slabs and using the body-building technique. Their design ranges from florally playful decorations, which are highlighted with a colored engobe and covered with a semi-transparent silky gloss glaze, to simple, strict forms in which the glaze only plays a subordinate role. Furthermore, various incised and notched decorations, small sculptural design elements, e.g. animal figures on vessels, as well as different colored glazing techniques are also used.

Of course, only a visit to our workshop can give you an idea of the wide range of products we offer. You can take your time to see how a vessel is made, touch and select ceramics. If you have special ideas and wishes, you can talk to us about the production of pottery, building ceramics or garden ceramics. We will realize your ideas and wishes.

Visit us and find a piece of individuality.
