Thuringian Christmas" glassblowing workshop
Thuringian Christmas" glassblowing workshop
The Bartholmes family is now in its fifth generation of lovingly handcrafting Christmas tree decorations. The great-grandfather was already making them in a workshop in Steinheid in 1890 and the molds, which are over 100 years old, are still used today. A special focus in the range is on motifs from nature - from cones to nuts and mushrooms. The traditional birds are a special feature, although the Bartholmes family depicts them true to life according to the different bird species. From jays and robins to fluffed-up blue tits in winter - there are now 48 different bird species in the collection, with three new ones added every year.
The complete range can be admired in the glassblowing store, which is located directly on the Rennsteig. The Bartholmes family offers a special service to their hiking customers on the Rennsteig: if you visit the glassblowing shop on a hike and choose your Christmas tree decorations, they will be sent to you by post on request so that nothing breaks during transportation.
On the 1st and 2nd Advent weekends, the glassblowing workshop can be visited and visitors can even try their hand at blowing a glass ball themselves.
