Recreation seekers in Thuringia and especially in the Altenburger Land district get their money's worth at Lake Hainbergsee. Alongside Haselbacher See, Hainbergsee is one of the most visited bathing lakes in the state. The bathing lake is easy to reach from Meuselwitz.

The Hainbergsee bathing lake in Meuselwitz is just 42 km from Leipzig (Saxony), 71 km from Chemnitz and 33 km from Gera (Thuringia) by car. Lake Hainbergsee straddles the borders of Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, so Spora, a town in the Burgenland district, is just 4 km from the lake. The shortest distance is from the surrounding villages of Würchwitz (4 km), Kriebitzsch (3 km) and Meuselwitz. The lake is part of the Meuselwitz district, which it borders on.

The municipality of Meuselwitz is the third largest in the Altenburger Land region of Thuringia. Only Schmölln and Altenburg itself are larger. It is considered a small town in the border triangle with Saxony-Anhalt and Saxony. The border with Saxony is just under 10 km north of Meuselwitz. Meuselwitz is located in the Leipzig lowland bay northwest of Altenburg, east of Zeitz and northeast of Gera.

The lake in Meuselwitz invites young and old to relax and enjoy themselves. The lake is up to one kilometer long and therefore offers enough space for numerous activities. Swimmers and anglers are just as welcome here as hikers, sailors and cyclists. The Hainbergsee is said to have an underground spring that supplies the lake with fresh water. Adjacent forests provide fresh air and a pleasant climate by the lake. Cooling air awaits you here even on hot summer days. Large sunbathing lawns offer plenty of space for sunbathers. The lake is easy to reach by car. The bathing lake is freely accessible and has no opening hours. Accordingly, there is no entrance fee. Dogs are allowed in designated areas.

Lake Hainberg was created from the former mine at the beginning of the 19th century. Today it covers an area of 18 hectares. In some places it is up to 40 m deep and therefore requires a great deal of attention from parents when children are playing.
