The Rennsteig town and its districts of Steinheid, Limbach, Neumannsgrund, Scheibe-Alsbach and Siegmundsburg are usually expecting the first snow as early as November. Due to its altitude of 868 m above sea level, Neuhaus am Rennweg is predestined as a resort and winter sports center. Here you are "a little closer to heaven"... When Mrs. Holle has really shaken her beds here in the upper mountains of the Thuringian Forest, the cross-country and skating trails and the ski hiking trails are prepared.

For alpine skiing, tobogganing and snowboarding, the ski slopes in Neuhaus am Rennweg and Siegmundsburg as well as the toboggan slope in Limbach have a firm snow cover. Horse-drawn sleigh rides are also possible if booked in advance. An exciting winter hike on snowshoes is just as recommended as a guided torchlight hike through the snow-covered winter forest. There is also a snow tubing facility in the Siegmundsburg district, just 9 km from the Rennsteig town. On large tires (tubes), the almost 250-meter rapid descent, during which the tire continuously rotates on its own axis, goes down into the valley. This is fun for young and old alike, as no sporting ability is required. The ski lifts "Am Apelsberg" (Neuhaus/ Rwg.) and "Dürre Fichte" (Siegmundsburg district) are also ideal for families with children, as the terrain and value for money are just right!

Here, right on the Rennsteig and in the heart of the Thuringian Forest, the whole winter is just perfect: unique natural scenery, friendly people, fantastic views and perfect winter sports conditions. Neuhaus am Rennweg invites you to enjoy an active vacation on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest during the "white season": you can enjoy the charming landscape in the clear winter air on around 28 km of cross-country ski trails, 48 km of ski hiking trails and 32 km of winter hiking trails! 

Various parking facilities are of course available on site. Ski rental and ski service facilities can be found in the center of Neuhausen and at the ski lift in Siegmundsburg. Various ski schools in and around our Rennsteig town also offer their services so that we can welcome you as winter sports enthusiasts again next year.
