Due to its altitude of approx. 700 m above sea level, there is often snow in Cursdorf as well as on the Rennsteig, even if there is none left in the valley.

Cursdorf is located between Oberweißbach and Neuhaus at the terminus of the flat section of the Thuringian mountain railroad (Oberweißbacher Bergbahn).

Excursion destinations such as the Fröbel Tower or the Meuselbacher Kuppe are easily accessible from Cursdorf.
