The municipality of Nobitz, located between Altenburg, Waldenburg and Chemnitz, has around 7300 inhabitants and is now an attractive business location in the Altenburger Land region with Leipzig-Altenburg Airport and its own industrial estates.

It was first mentioned in a document in 1181 in the central register of the Bosau monastery. From twelve farms in 1445, the village had grown to 96 houses and a manor by 1880. In 1968, there were still 38 half-timbered houses in Nobitz, some of which had been preserved.

With the industrial estates in Nobitz and Ehrenhain, a number of medium-sized companies have established themselves, new jobs have been created and excellent shopping opportunities have developed for the population. The townscape of Nobitz is characterized by a large number of striking half-timbered buildings which, despite some new buildings, reveal the rural character of the settlement. The Pleißenaue offers a fascinating sight at any time of year and invites every visitor to linger. Relaxation can also be found at quiet, beautifully designed village ponds, in small parks, on village squares and not least in the densely wooded surroundings.

With the entry into force of the "Thuringian Act on the Voluntary Reorganization of Municipalities in 2012", the municipality of Saara was dissolved on 31.12.2012 and incorporated into the municipality of Nobitz.

The VG Wiaratal was dissolved on 30.06.2018 and the municipalities of Engertsdorf, Frohnsdorf, Jückelberg and Ziegelheim were incorporated into the municipality of Nobitz. Since then, Nobitz has also been the fulfilling municipality for the municipalities of Langenleuba-Niederhain and Göpfersdorf.
