Elgersburg
Elgersburg
The resort town of Elgersburg is best known for its castle of the same name, which was first mentioned in 1139. Elgersburg is one of the most beautiful, oldest and best preserved castles in Thuringia. After many changing owners, it is now administered by the municipality of Elgersburg. In summer, numerous open-air events take place at Elgersburg Castle. In the cold months, the Great Knights' Hall invites you to cabaret and culture. The castle gallery attracts artists and guests from near and far with its various exhibitions. The history of Elgersburg since the beginning of the 19th century is determined by its development into a health resort in 1837. In 1828 the 1st cold-water sanatorium in Germany was founded here. Every guest can convince himself of the effect of the "healthy wet" during a guided spring hike.
