In the southern part of the Thuringian Forest, in scenic and wooded surroundings, lies the municipality of Lichte, surrounded by mountains that sometimes rise to 800 m above sea level.

Lichte consists of four districts: Wallendorf, Bock and Teich, Geiersthal and Lichte. You will find peace and relaxation during walks through extensive forests and flowery meadows with natural beauties that have become rare in many places.

Since 1764 "white gold" - porcelain - has been produced in Lichte. With a visit to our local porcelain factories you can get an insight into this traditional craft and a small souvenir will always remind you of your visit to Lichte.

Worth seeing and impressive is also the landmark of the village, the 253 m long and 34 m high railroad viaduct, which spans the valley in which our village extends extensively.

Furthermore, you will find the church of Wallendorf, built in 1733 in the style of the peasant baroque. This building is illuminated since this year for the first time in the evening hours. In our drawing school Lichte-Geiersthal a great offer awaits you. There, various items such as ceramics, porcelain, glass, wood, picture frames and plaster figures can be worked with a variety of motifs and special colors as well as materials. This is done under the expert guidance of Mrs. Walther. New in the offer is the purchase of all articles. In the same building is our Heimatstube, which deals with the traditional history of our village.

By the way, the small watercourse through the village is also called Lichte and takes its course through the beautiful, charming landscape of the Lichte valley to the Lichte/Leibis dam. The clean and clear water, surrounded by densely wooded mountain slopes, not only invites you to linger. The dam structure, which rises 102.5 meters above the ground, is imposing. The crown of the concrete wall measures 369 meters in width. Behind it, up to 39.2 million cubic meters of water are dammed over a length of 3.6 kilometers. At its deepest point, it is 91 meters to the bottom where the Lichte once flowed. At the new Leibis, between Rudolstadt and Neuhaus in the Thuringian Forest, Germany's probably last large new dam for drinking water supply was put into operation in 2005; the Lichte-Leibis dam.

For sports-minded vacationers there is a wonderfully located outdoor pool in Lichte-Geiersthal. A sports field, playgrounds as well as a football field invite to sports activities.
