Renthendorf belongs to the Valley villages in the red sandstone plateau between the Saale and Elster rivers. The village with its approx. 100 houses stretches 5 km along the valley of the Roda.

The town is known as the home of naturalists Christoph Ludwig Brehm (1787-1864), the "bird priest", and Alfred Edmund Brehm (1829-1884), the "father of animals". In the new exhibition set up in 2020 Permanent exhibition "Brehm's World" In the renovated house, the relationship between animals and humans then and now is portrayed through the biographies of father and son. Not far from the Church the Brehm memorial is located on a hill. In particular, it commemorates Christian Ludwig Brehm, who was a priest in the village for 50 years. As a legacy to this tradition, the two inlays in the chancel of the church are reminiscent of Jesus' famous words about the birds. Alfred Brehm, his parents and other family members are buried in the Renthendorf churchyard.

The Brehm circular hiking trail with the yellow B invites you to discover nature in the footsteps of the Brehm family. The trail begins at the museum and leads via the memorial to the place where Christian Ludwig Brehm made his bird observations and introduced his son Alfred to ornithology: two maple trees on the Baderberg. Educational boards along the trail provide information about the local flora and fauna, but also familiarize visitors with the Brehms' work. The easy circular walk is 2.13 km long and takes around 45 minutes.
