Lindig is a small community in the middle Saale valley and about 20 km from Jena away. Idyllically situated on a plateau, the view leads to the north-west in the direction of Saale, Kahla and the "Queen of the Saale Valley", the Shining castle. To the east and south is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in the Thuringian woodland.

Not far from Lindig is a popular hiking destination, the Leubengrund. Hiking enthusiasts will find peace and relaxation in the side valley of the Saale with its charmingly situated mills. The forest area offers even more hidden highlights: The area is rich in game and has a long tradition of princely hunts. Hunting ground Rieseneck with trenches, underground passages and hunting blinds. At the edge of the complex is a tower-like building - the Duke's chair. The pleasure palace was built at the beginning of the 20th century as a private retreat for Duke Ernst II of Saxe-Altenburg and is a popular photo motif due to its unusual architecture. And the hidden Hummelshain with the Old and new hunting lodge is characterized by the history of this tradition.
