Schleusingerneundorf, a district of the town of Schleusingen, has a population of around 600 and was first mentioned in 1406. At that time, 2 glassworks were built, but they ceased operations after a few decades. In addition to meagre agriculture, charcoal burning and logging were the main occupations. The village lies around 450 - 500 m above sea level in the south of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. It is conveniently located on the B4 and is also easy to reach by bus. The Rennsteig, the ridgeway of the Thuringian Forest, is approx. 10 km away. Schleusingerneundorf is charmingly embedded in the surrounding wooded mountains. The extensive network of well-marked hiking trails is ideal for wonderful walks. Bathing enthusiasts will find a beautiful forest pool with an open-air stage in the Glasbach valley. In winter, there are groomed ski trails.
