Saxonbrunn

Sachsenbrunn was first mentioned in a document in 1317 and is located in the upper Werra Valley at an altitude of approx. 465 m above sea level. The districts of Tossenthal and Weitesfeld were added to Sachsenbrunn in 1967 and the villages of Friedrichshöhe, Saargrund, Schirnrod and Stelzen in 1994. A landmark of our area, the 867 m high Bleßberg, which today is the center of a popular hiking region, is visible from afar. The extensive forests around the Werra and Saar offer our guests good hiking and recreational opportunities, and a walk to the protected yew grove, one of the largest in Europe, is particularly recommended. Sachsenbrunn is known far beyond its borders for its 350-year-old dancing lime tree, on which people still sometimes dare to dance. Other "real" sights are the Fleischbaum, the Hirschkanzel, the Werrateich, the Werra springs and our beautiful, over 400-year-old church, of which it is said that the crucifixion group is from the workshop of Tilmann Riemenschneider, as well as the marble museum of the stone sculptor Axel Trümper. In total, there are around 60 km of hiking trails around Sachsenbrunn, offering nature and local history enthusiasts undisturbed hiking in beautiful natural surroundings. As Sachsenbrunn is conveniently located directly on the B 281 and in the immediate vicinity of the A 73, tourists can take day trips to the Veste in Coburg, the Eisfeld Museum, the summer toboggan run in Waffenrod or the Masserberg bathhouse.
