In the heart of the Hochrhön and the biosphere reserve lies the municipality of Ehrenberg (Rhön) with its 5 districts. In the course of the territorial reform in 1972, the villages of Wüstensachsen, Melperts, Seiferts, Thaiden and Reulbach were merged to form the municipality of Ehrenberg (Rhön). It is named after Ehrenberg (817 m), which lies in the middle of the municipality.

Nestled between the local mountains Steinkopf, Schafstein, Ehrenberg and Mathesberg, the municipality of Ehrenberg is an ideal starting point for hiking and cycling tours.
