Ritschenhausen

Ritschenhausen is a small municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the Dolmar-Salzbrücke administrative community and has around 300 inhabitants. Ritschenhausen is located in the Jüchse valley between the Eichelberg and Zehnerberg mountains, around eight kilometers south of Meiningen. The village was first mentioned in a document in 906 and was long owned by the monastery of Fulda and the Counts of Henneberg. It later belonged to the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. Ritschenhausen is known for its fortified churchyard with a fortified church tower and for his Local poet Paulus Motzwho was born here in 1817. Ritschenhausen has a railroad station on the Schweinfurt-Meiningen line and on the Neudietendorf-Ritschenhausen line. The municipality offers two allotment gardens for lease and regularly organizes funfairs, spring cleaning and Christmas dinners. Ritschenhausen is an idyllic place between the Thuringian Forest and the Rhön, inviting you to relax and explore.
