Utendorf
Utendorf is a district of the municipality of Dolmar-Salzbrücke in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. The village lies on the southern slope of the Dolmar, an extinct volcano that is one of the highest mountains in the Rhön region. Utendorf has around 500 inhabitants and covers an area of 4.5 km². The history of the village dates back to the 9th century, when it was first mentioned in a document. Utendorf was agricultural for a long time and belonged to the Duchy of Saxe-Meiningen. Today, the village is primarily known for its proximity to the Thuringian Rhön Nature Park and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. Utendorf offers its visitors numerous hiking and cycling trails, a campsite and a restaurant serving regional cuisine. The village is also a popular starting point for excursions to the Dolmar, the Veßra monastery or the Werra spring.
