Zeutsch

Located to the left of the Saale, east of Uhlstädt, at the entrance to the Hexengrund and where the Wiedbach flows into the Saale (178 m above sea level, 307 inhabitants), the village was first mentioned in a document in 1083 as Scuz. The place name was probably derived from the Slav. The place name was probably derived from the Slavic word "such" = dry, possibly for a dry place on the river.

The Zeutscher Flur also extends to the area to the right of the Saale, including the deserted village of Töpfersdorf with its church ruins, which was already mentioned in the Niederkrossen description of the village (see small photo).

Zeutsch was an old aristocratic residence. However, the manor house was demolished in 1967 due to dilapidation. The grandmother of Catherine II of Russia, Eleonore von Zeutsch, came from the Mansfeld line of the von Zeutsch family.

Today, the association "Christiane Eleonore von Zeutsch" e.V. takes care of the local history. Among other things, the members look after the "Heimatstube", an exhibition that they set up themselves years ago in the former school. The exhibition has been expanded to include a historical classroom. The Zeutsch fire department association also plays an active role in shaping social life in the village.
