Wandersleben - wonderfully situated in the "Drei Gleichen" castle region (Mühlburg, Wachsenburg and Gleichen Castle) in the middle of Germany. The town lies between the Thuringian state capital of Erfurt to the east and the royal seat of Gotha to the west.
The settlement has been mentioned since the 9th century and is also called Wandisleibin, Wantesleiben or Wandisleben in the old documents. It was not until around 1500 that the name Wandersleben was established. Today, the village of Wandersleben belongs to the district of Gotha and had around 1,770 inhabitants in 2001.
Wandersleben is a typical crossroads village. Gleichen Castle is located around three kilometers from the village center. In addition to the historic trade school from the 17th century, there is also a medieval residential tower in the village. Directly opposite, the Menantes Museum can be visited in the garden of the vicarage. The life and works of the baroque poet Christian Friedrich Hunold are exhibited there. Also worth seeing is the baroque interior of St. Peter's Church, whose organ is regularly the focus of concerts during the Thuringian Organ Summer.
