Klettstedt covers an area of 570 ha and is located on the Klunkerbach stream. The first documentary mention dates back to 977, when Emperor Otto II confirmed to the Abbot of Fulda the estates of gleddistedi (Klettstedt), which were transferred to Fulda Monastery. The name appears much earlier in the 9th century. The town's church is the Protestant church of St. Caecilia. The tower on the east side of the nave bears the date 1574 and reveals repairs carried out in that year. Bells from the 13th and 16th centuries ring out in the church tower. Klettstedt belongs to the parish of Großvargula. Cultural life in Klettstedt is very active and is largely supported by the cultural and local history association.
