Gefell is a country town in the Thuringian Saale-Orla district in the Vogtland region not far from Bavaria and Saxony.

The area around Gefell is located in the south-eastern Thuringian Slate Mountains. The soils are predominantly formed from quartzic banded clay slate and quartz sandstones.[3] Spring hollows and narrow stream valleys are typical grassland locations. Arable farming is favored on plateau-like ridges, undulating plains and flat slopes. Forestry predominates on other sites.
