The small village (210 m above sea level, 98 inhabitants) is framed by steep mountains, northwest of Kirchhasel in the Haselbach valley, at the entrance to the Hirschgrund. It was first mentioned in a document in 1349 as Ubirn Hasela.

The church, which dates back to late Romanesque times, is well worth a visit. Inside there is a valuable late Gothic carved altar and a sacrament niche from around 1500. In the center of the village, next to the community hall, an old half-timbered building, is the village fountain, which is still used by the residents today. The old bakehouse has been restored and is looked after by the Oberhasel bakehouse association.     

Thanks to its direct connection to the forest, Oberhasel is a popular starting point for hikes.
