The village of Berka is a district of the town of Sondershausen and is located on the river Wipper. The village is documented since the 12th century and the great-great-grandfather of the probably most famous German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe lived here. The village church St. Viti from 1723 is one of the most characteristic buildings of the village. Next to the church a princely domain was built in 1852, because Berka belonged to the "kitchen villages" of the princely court of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and supplied the nearby residence castle with vegetables. Today, Berka invites you to a country vacation and is connected to the Unstrut-Werra cycle path.
