The village first mentioned in 897 Dachrieden lies in the Unstrut-Hainich district on the Gotha-Leinefelde railroad line. The village is characterized by agriculture and fruit growing and has a long tradition as a mill site.

Due to the proximity of the Unstruttal village to the mountain range Dün, to the Eichsfeld and to the UNESCO Hainich National Park there are many recreational opportunities in nature.
