Saaldorf
Saaldorf
The nature around Saaldorf is particularly charming. The district belongs to Bad Lobenstein, the place name exists since 1784. If already in the early Middle Ages small smelting works arose, later the processing of copper, wood, brick burning and wool spinning were added. Names such as Spaniershammer and Neuhammer still remind us of this. Due to the construction of the Bleiloch dam (it was inaugurated on December 2, 1932 after 7 years of construction) 319 Saaldorfer - more than half of the inhabitants at that time - had to move up from below, on the area of the dam. As a result, many new houses were built during that time. Saaldorf is located in the area of the Upper Saale Landscape Protection Area. Among the most beautiful destinations at the reservoir are the Silberknie, the Marienstein, the Stahlleite and the Heinrichstein. Saaldorf is also the venue of central rowing and canoeing regattas.
