The village of Neusitz (367 m above sea level, 108 inhabitants) is located on a ridge to the south of the upper Hexengrund on the Haselbach, which flows through the Hirschgrund. The agricultural village was first mentioned in a document in 1194 as Nuwesecen.
In 1949, the first central school in the district of Rudolstadt was built in Neusitz. Today, its rooms house one of the two regular state schools. The large, now listed building in the north of Neusitz was first extended in 1968. A new gymnasium was added in 1992.
The Neusitz music association, which has found its home in the village community center, is known far beyond the borders of the municipality.
Just outside the village, to the east, is the Agrarprodunktion GmbH building complex with the 2000 dairy cow facility built in 1976.
