Ballhausen
Ballhausen
The village of Ballhausen was first mentioned in a document in 780. The municipality of Ballhausen is located on the easternmost edge of our administrative community and was created in 1952 by merging the villages of Großballhausen and Kleinballhausen. Both districts can look back on a long and eventful history and have developed into a modern residential community. The newly developed residential area "Im Waidmühlenfeld", the kindergarten, the youth club and lively club activities in the village have all contributed to this. A seat of the "zu Balenhusen" family was first mentioned at the beginning of the 12th century. The structural origins of the castle date back to this time. The house has changed hands several times since the 14th century. Today, the castle is used as a residential building. The castle park in Kleinballhausen with its old trees, watercourses and ponds is ideal for walks and hikes. Traditionally, the park festival is celebrated in summer, which is known beyond the boundaries of the municipality. The largest agricultural employer is the agricultural cooperative with its dairy farm and biogas plant.
