The municipality of Kyffhäuserland lies - as its name suggests - on the Kyffhäuser Mountains. The districts of Badra, Bendeleben, Göllingen, Günserode, Hachelbich, Rottleben, Seega and Steinthaleben are attractively situated around the smallest low mountain range in Germany and thus also in the Kyffhäuser Nature Park. Hikers and cyclists will find an attractive network of trails here, including the certified quality hiking trail Kyffhäuserweg as well as the Kyffhäuser Cycle Path.

The municipality is home not only to the famous 125-year-old Kyffhäuser Monument, but also to the unique Barbarossa Cave, one of only two show caves in anhydrite rock in the world. Miners discovered the natural cavities by chance in 1865, shortly after the first guests arrived and until today the Barbarossahöhle attracts visitors. The cave belongs to the village of Rottleben, which is documented since 1125.

The baroque village of Bendeleben looks back on an even longer history and was first mentioned in 870. The village is characterized by various buildings from the Baroque period, such as the manor house, the new castle, the pleasure garden with orangery and an extensive park.

The village of Steinthaleben, located on the western foothills of the Kyffhäuser Mountains, is known primarily for one sight: The Kyffhäuser Monument, one of the largest monuments in Germany - honoring the legendary German emperors Wilhelm I and Friedrich I, usually called Barbarossa - is located in the village's district. Visible from afar, the monument, which is a good 80 meters high, towers over the Kyffhäuser Mountains and offers an impressive panoramic view of the Kyffhäuser Nature Park and the Goldene Aue. Visitors are also impressed by the remains of the once mighty Kyffhausen Imperial Castle.

The district of Göllingen is located on the arm of the Wipper River. A special treasure is hidden here - the remains of the former Romanesque monastery of St. Wigbert. The octagonal monastery tower with Moorish-Byzantine elements and a crypt worth seeing are impressive.
